'Idée Fixe' was a short film I created in 2017-2018 as my thesis film for my degree in Animation.

 

I wanted to explore the co-existing addictions that I saw in parallel, the human ego's obsession with wealth (hence the title, Idée Fixe is a French expression meaning 'an idea or obsession that dominates the mind). I had been interested in the implications of how these forms of instant gratification delude our sense of self. My digital 2D animation illustrates these addictions metaphorically through one of it’s most immediate forms, that of drug addiction.

 

In my animation, the patriarch of the family indulges in the glamour and the subsequent megalomania of instant gratification throughout a night of debauchery only to realize his delusions in harsh clarity come morning.
